From Scratch

I learned to bake from my mother when I was very young. She would always bake cookies and coffeecakes for her basket students, and so all the basic ingredients were always on hand in the kitchen. Baking became a hobby, and my favorite thing to make (and eat) was Midnight Chocolate Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting - a recipe from my grandmother. In 2007 I decided to make a living for myself with something that had been a lifelong enjoyment and started The Sweetish Baker.

Know thy Ingredients

 

Being raised in Great Barrington has given me great exposure to an abundance of agricultural products. Every Tuesday and Saturday morning as a child my family would receive our milk delivery from High Lawn Farm in Lee, and in the summer my family enjoyed the produce my parents had grown in the vegetable garden at our house. My father was an active participant in the first years of the Great Barrington Farmers Market, and attending those markets are some of my first and favorite memories. Cherishing the value of knowing where food comes from, I use fresh and local products whenever possible and also source organic and always non-GMO ingredients.
